Tribal Rights Advocacy

Honor the Treaty of 1864 (HTT) is committed to ensuring that the sovereignty of the Klamath, Modoc, and Yahooskin peoples is protected, respected, and upheld for future generations. As we grow, we plan to engage in advocacy that defends treaty rights, safeguards our ancestral lands, and strengthens Indigenous leadership in decision-making processes.

Our Future Advocacy Focus Areas

✔️ Treaty & Land Defense
HTT aims to build a community-led effort to monitor land issues, challenge unlawful land use, and advocate for the return of lands wrongfully taken from our people. We plan to develop strategies for resisting land encroachments and ensuring that development projects respect our treaty rights and cultural heritage.

✔️ Environmental Stewardship
We seek to create initiatives that promote Indigenous-led environmental protection, ensuring that our water, land, and natural resources remain healthy for generations to come. HTT plans to engage in conversations around sustainable land management, environmental justice, and policies that impact our people’s ability to steward our homelands.

✔️ Policy & Legal Advocacy
HTT is working toward becoming a trusted resource for tribal members who want to better understand their rights under the Treaty of 1864 and the legal frameworks that impact Indigenous sovereignty. In the future, we plan to provide education, research, and advocacy to help our people navigate policies at the local, state, and federal levels.

Our long-term vision is to create opportunities for tribal members to engage in policy discussions, organize for land defense, and advocate for laws that protect our sovereignty and cultural resources. While we are just beginning, HTT is dedicated to ensuring that future advocacy efforts are rooted in our community’s needs and priorities.
